5-HTP—also known as 5-Hydroxytryptophan or 5-Hydroxy-l-tryptophan—is a secret weapon of fitness professionals and bodybuilders everywhere for its ability to help curb appetite and enhance sleep quality. 5-HTP, which is categorized as an amino acid, does this by converting into the chemical serotonin in the brain.

Our bodies naturally produce serotonin, which plays an important role in regulating sleep, mood, behavior, and appetite. However, the large number of stressors we face on a daily basis can reduce the level of serotonin in our brains.
