My experience with 5-HTP for anxiety is pretty good option. 5-HTP is my favorite supplement for anxiety & better mood. 5-HTP Increases your serotonin levels. Low serotonin levels cause anxiety and other issues like insomnia, OCD, depression.

5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan ) is an amino acid that is made from another amino acid l-tryptophan. Foods like eggs, bananas, almonds, poultry, dairy have small amount of l-tryptophan in them.
L-tryptophan helps body to convert to 5-HTP, from there to serotonin. 5-HTP itself is also available as supplement. 5-HTP is more effective because it crosses the blood barrier faster and more efficiently.
I tried a couple of brands but it wasn’t until I stumbled onto 5-HTP by Solgar brand. The pills also contain 100mg of Valerian & 50 mg of magnesium, which have calming effect.
The way it works for anxiety is it increases serotonin levels in your brain. Unlike SSRI medications that take 4-6 weeks until you feel effects, this works in a matter of days!
SSRI medications work also differently as they reuse your available serotonin this actually creates it!
5-HTP is fantastic for short-term use, it gives you a nice boost but you must try it yourself and see what’s a good way to use it. You have to be extremely cautious when dealing with brain chemistry.
